Sayh al Uhaymir 442 is considered a “Valid” meteorite. “Valid” meteorites are typical meteorites with average weathering, while “relict” meteorites are those that have been extremely altered, either due to weathering over time or human intervention.
Sayh al Uhaymir 442’s official classification is L~6. Meteorites classified as “L~6” are ordinary chondrites from the L group that exhibit characteristics similar to petrologic type 6 chondrites. These meteorites have undergone significant metamorphism, leading to the homogenization of mineral compositions, conversion of low-Ca pyroxene to orthopyroxene, and coarsening of secondary minerals like feldspar, resulting in the obliteration of many chondrule outlines, all without melting.
