The Andreevka meteorite was discovered in 1969. It was recovered in Kramatorsk, , Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine (48.7, 37.5). It has a mass of 600 grams.
Andreevka is considered a “Valid” meteorite. “Valid” meteorites are typical meteorites with average weathering, while “relict” meteorites are those that have been extremely altered, either due to weathering over time or human intervention.
Andreevka’s official classification is L3. Meteorites classified as “L3” are ordinary chondrites from the L group that exhibit characteristics of petrologic type 3 chondrites. These meteorites are known for having abundant chondrules, low levels of aqueous alteration, and mineral compositions that are not fully equilibrated. Some of the low-Ca pyroxene grains may have monoclinic structures and display polysynthetic twinning, and they may belong to different subtypes within the type 3 category based on their degree of metamorphism.
