L(LL)5 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The L(LL)5 meteorite classification refers to a type of ordinary chondrite, which is a common class of space rock, that could belong to either the L or LL group, but is more likely from the L group, and exhibits characteristics of petrologic type 5. This type of meteorite has undergone significant metamorphic changes, resulting in uniform mineral compositions and the blurring of the distinct spherical structures known as chondrules, indicative of a moderate level of thermal alteration.
