LL3 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The classification “LL3” refers to a specific type of ordinary chondrite from the LL group. These meteorites are characterized by their low iron and metal content, fairly large chondrules, and oxygen isotope compositions that differ from other ordinary chondrites. Additionally, they are classified as petrologic type 3, indicating an abundance of chondrules, low degrees of alteration, and unique mineral characteristics, such as monoclinic low-Ca pyroxene grains with twinning.
