Class Description

The classification “L5/6” refers to ordinary chondrite meteorites from the L group, and they can either be petrologic type 5 or type 6. Petrologic type 5 meteorites have undergone some metamorphic changes, including the transformation of certain minerals and the growth of secondary minerals, while petrologic type 6 meteorites have experienced more extensive changes that include the conversion of minerals and the obliteration of many chondrule outlines, without any melting.
