L/LL4/5 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The L/LL4/5 meteorite classification represents a group of meteorites that share characteristics of both the L (low-iron) and LL (low-iron, low metal) groups of ordinary chondrites, which are known for their specific iron content and chondrule size. These meteorites display features of both petrologic types 4 and 5, indicating a range of metamorphism where the minerals are increasingly homogenized and recrystallized, yet still retain some distinct features from their original chondritic formation.
