H~6 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The classification “H~6” denotes an ordinary chondrite from the H group that is approximately petrologic type 6. Ordinary chondrites of the H group are characterized by sub-solar Mg/Si ratios, distinctive oxygen isotope compositions, and a substantial proportion of chondrules, while petrologic type 6 signifies chondrites that have undergone metamorphism resulting in mineral composition changes and the coarsening of secondary phases, though no melting has occurred.
