H3 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The classification “H3” refers to an ordinary chondrite from the H group that is petrologic type 3. Ordinary chondrites in the H group are known for their high siderophile element content, relatively small chondrules, and distinctive oxygen isotope compositions, while petrologic type 3 chondrites are characterized by abundant chondrules, minimal aqueous alteration, and unequilibrated mineral assemblages, with some low-Ca pyroxene grains exhibiting specific characteristics like monoclinic structure and polysynthetic twinning.
