CO3 Meteorite Classification

Class Description

The “CO3” classification denotes a carbonaceous chondrite from the CO group, particularly of petrologic type 3, characterized by small chondrules and refractory inclusions that make up about half of the rock’s volume. This type of meteorite displays a low degree of water-based alteration and is marked by a significant presence of chondrules and minerals in an unaltered state, with some low-calcium pyroxene grains showing unique twinning.
